Welcome back to another installment of the Even Paw. Last month, Bear Trail was a buzzing beehive of events. We managed to make it through 6 successful tournaments with all limbs intact. Oktoberfest turned out to be one of the coldest nights yet! No frost bite to speak of, no carts in the pond, however we did have one incident involving a cart, Kenny Flannagan, and a 4X4 post. We expect him to petition for golf cart air bags in the near future. Our very own Barry Day coordinated the feast and cooked the brats to perfection. Thank you to all the volunteers and participants for making all the events this month a success. Billy Elston was the overall winner of the night golf portion of the event. CONGRATULATIONS We would like to congratulate Bear Trail Member Paul Buchanan on his recent re-election as Onslow County Commissioner I'm sure everyone was excited to turn back their clocks the first weekend of this month. With this time change comes new hours for the course. We still have tee times starting at 7:30am; only 9 hole carts are available after 3:00pm; no carts out after 4:00pm; all carts are due in no later than 6:00pm. So far, we have no scheduled tournaments for this month, but be sure to check the website regularly for any new upcoming events. Along with the weather, our pro shop apparel has turned wintry as well. Now is the time to stock up on cold weather gear! We have just received new wind shirts and long sleeve polo's as well as long sleeve mock shirts for men. We have a new list of Weekend games this month: Sun. Nov. 9th - 2 man Best Ball / Blind Draw Sun. Nov. 16th - Blitz (Modified Stableford) w/ Skins Sun. Nov. 23rd - Gobbler Open / Low Net Low Gross / Winners also receive a Turkey! Let's not forget, Thurs. Nov. 27th is Thanksgiving Day. We will have a game going -Golker (golf and poker combo)- and the course will be closing at 2pm. A few reminders from last month: We have a small group of ladies who are interested in getting together a ladies golf day on either Mondays or Tuesdays. If you are interested, please sign up in the Pro Shop giving your name, phone number, and preferred day to play. Attention Members! We are in need of committee members! We are looking for at least 4 volunteers per committee and you can belong to more than one. We are currently seeking members for a Tournament Committee, a Handicap Committee, and a Rules Committee. Please sign up in the Pro Shop if you are interested in helping your home course. These committees are very important to the "membership" as they pertain to numerous issues that arise throughout the year regarding conduct of play and other miscellaneous aspects of golf. Doug Lisle has volunteered to lead our tournament committee and Ed Kangas and Tom Biller have also offered to work on a committee - we need more of those interested in helping your fellow members to volunteer for a year so we can get these groups running. Also, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for The Even Paw, I would love to hear them! Email me at newsletter@beartrailgolf.com. We wish everyone well as we start another holiday season. Have a great month! |
